Colorado Springs History

Colorado Springs was founded in 1871 by General William Jackson Palmer. General Palmer saw the beauty of Colorado Springs and wanted to develop the area to attract rich vacationers and settlers. The gold rush brought a boom in business developments to Colorado Springs. The area became a tourist attraction once again after the gold rush. Military presence increased greatly since 1942 when Colorado Springs offered land to armed forces. The manufacturing industry also expanded greatly in the 1960's and 1970's as the city's quality of life and cost advantages were realized. Colorado Springs is now the second largest city in Colorado.
